Basmati is a type of rice that tastes like popcorn or nuts. It is called the King of rice because it contains large amounts of nutrients and is characterized by wonderful taste and aroma.
The grains contain cellulose, starch, folic acid, 8 amino acids, iron, phosphorus, potassium, riboflavin, niacin and extremely little sodium. It also contains copper, zinc, calcium, magnesium, vitamins B1, B6, E, K and pantothenic acid.
It can be consumed by people suffering from stomach ulcers and gastritis. Easily digested, does not contain cholesterol. For those who are obese, unpolished rice is recommended.
If you suffer from diabetes, it is often recommended to exclude carbohydrate foods, including rice. Basmati is the preferred variety because it has a low to medium glycemic index, and its index is the lowest of all types of rice. Namely, the glycemic index is important for people with diabetes. The good amount of fiber in rice plays a major role in controlling the sharp rise in blood sugar. Fiber is the reason why the energy it gives to the body is expended more slowly.
To the benefits of fiber we must add the fact that they reduce the risk of colon cancer, which has been proven by a number of studies. Whole grain basmati rice also helps control the hormone estrogen.
Potassium in the composition of the product makes it useful for the cardiovascular system, and phosphorus is needed to restore bone tissue. Potassium and magnesium also help control blood pressure and are suitable for people with hypertension as it can help lower blood pressure.
Rice is recommended to be part of the diet of people with kidney and heart problems, as it contributes to the removal of excess salt.
Basmati rice can help you lose weight, as fiber is broken down more slowly and controls appetite, increasing the feeling of satiety. It contains a large amount of amylose, a type of carbohydrate that is more difficult for the body to digest.
Thanks to this rice you can get rid of a problem such as constipation, which many people suffer from. Fiber helps bowel movements.
In terms of amino acids and other essential nutrients, Basmati is a leader among other varieties of rice.
To all the nutritional qualities we can add the pleasant taste, which goes perfectly with various dishes, especially often used in Indian cuisine, along with curry and vegetables.
Basmati rice is not harmful, but there are some situations in which its consumption should be limited. Such are the cases of obesity, constipation and colic. The reason is the high content of amylase in the product, which, however, is useful in pancreatic insufficiency, cystic fibrosis (affected endocrine glands), acute hepatitis and toxicosis in pregnant women.
Also, it should not be present more often than once a week in the menu of children under 3 years of age.
