It is time to understand how to eat in old age from the life of women over 60 years. Find out what are the main foods and what minerals and vitamins your body needs at this age.

Vitamins are vital…

With aging, various physiological and psychological changes occur, which also have direct requirements on nutrition. The body becomes less efficient in absorbing various vitamins and minerals. Long-term use of drugs can also reduce the absorption of nutrients. At the same time, many people find that with age and appetite decreases, and nutritional needs remain the same, and in some cases increase, it becomes even more important to consume healthy and nutritious food.

Digestive problems such as constipation, hemorrhoids and diverticular diseases are more common as we age and reduce our activity. Make sure you maintain a good water balance in your body. Not only food is important, exercise and sports, even lighter practices such as yoga can reduce stress and help prevent constipation.

With age, our sense of smell decreases and the taste changes, but this should not entice you to add more salt to your meals - use more herbs, spices and other flavors such as garlic, lemon, vinegar or mustard to compensate.

As stomach acid levels decrease, so does the absorption of iron, calcium and vitamins B6, B12 and folate. As a result, disorders such as fatigue, weakness and impaired concentration may occur.

The risk of heart attack and stroke increases with age. The main factors are nutritional deficiencies, excessive consumption of saturated fats, alcohol, smoking, reduced physical activity.

As we age, people absorb less and less vitamin D because we become more likely to skip walks. So try to eat foods high in vitamins, such as eggs and oily fish.

What to eat?

Fiber - Make sure your diet contains enough fiber from foods such as oats, fruits, vegetables, legumes. If you suffer from constipation, you can drink prune juice every morning.

Vitamin B12 - Provide a useful vitamin with the consumption of meat, fish, eggs, dairy products and fortified cereals with added B12.

Vitamin D - Small amounts of the vitamin are found in eggs and oily fish. Vitamin D can be absorbed by the sun, so when it is warm, expose your hands to the sun for at least 20 minutes a day.
