Cryptitis, or the inflammatory process in morganium crypts, is not as common a disease as hemorrhoids, however, no less unpleasant. The appearance of pain and discomfort in the anus area is a good reason to visit a proctologist at the Good Doctor Clinic. Timely diagnosis and treatment will be the key to preventing complications and transforming the disease into a chronic form.

Why does cryptitis appear?

Inflammation of the sinuses (morganium crypts), which are located on the last part of the rectum, is called cryptitis. Anatomical form in the form of folds is prone to the accumulation of parts of feces, remnants of secretions and mucus. And this contributes to the development of pathogenic microorganisms that provoke inflammation and the appearance of abscesses on the intestinal mucosa. Normally, thanks to the mucus secreted by the anal glands, feces and other parts are washed out of the recesses. But when their work is disturbed or the intestinal surface is injured, cryptitis develops.

The reasons given by doctors are:

  • long-term constipation that injures the mucous membrane of the rectum;
  • significant diarrhea, which has an irritating effect on the crypts;
  • diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, as a result of which hard food is poorly digested and damages the intestines;
  • inflammatory and infectious processes in the rectum;
  • injury to the anus area by foreign objects;
  • appearance and development of hemorrhoids.

Thus, the main cause of cryptitis is intestinal dysfunction and fecal stagnation. In addition to pathological processes, the following contribute to the disease: a sedentary lifestyle, improper nutrition, and bad habits.

How is cryptitis diagnosed?

Usually, the disease is characterized by slow development. At the beginning, both adult patients and children's patients feel pain and pressure in the anus area. Other symptoms are:

  • burning and itching in the anus;
  • shooting pain, the intensity of which increases;
  • sensation of moisture, as if something were in the rectum;
  • purulent and bloody discharge from the anus.

These symptoms indicate the acute form of cryptitis and the presence of an abscess.

To diagnose the disease, the proctologist will listen to complaints, conduct an examination and rectal examination to identify the focus of inflammation with the help of fingers. And the diagnosis can be confirmed by instrumental examination methods:

  • anoscopy — examination of the anal canal using a rectal mirror;
  • rectomanoscopy — an endoscopic device studies the mucous membrane of the sigmoid and rectum;
  • colonoscopy — endoscopic examination of the colon;
  • ultrasonography, using a rectal sensor;
  • proctography — X-ray with a contrast agent;
  • biopsy, which is performed during anoscopy. The doctor takes a portion of the tissue for histological examination to rule out cancer.

Also, the doctor can prescribe blood tests to confirm the presence of inflammation in the body. Thus, the cause of the disease will be determined and a treatment scheme will be formed.

How to treat cryptitis?

Proctitis, paraproctitis, anal fissures are complications of acute cryptitis. In addition, it can turn into a chronic state. What will contribute to the appearance of scars, deformation of the crypt, less elasticity of the rectum. And this is the way to constipation and other complications with defecation.

Treatment of acute cryptitis, namely an abscess, involves surgical intervention with the aim of dissection of the formation.

In other cases, the disease is treated conservatively. Depending on the manifestations and course of the disease, the doctor prescribes:

  • drug therapy aimed at stopping the inflammatory process, reducing pain and discomfort;
  • topical preparations and enemas. These can be candles, ointments, powders, decoctions of herbs, hygienic baths;
  • strict diet, including porridge, boiled or stewed vegetables, dairy products. Food that irritates the intestines is prohibited (sweet, alcohol, coffee, fatty, fried, salty, spicy, pickled foods and carbonated drinks).

Interestingly, in cases of children's cryptitis, in addition to chronic constipation, uncontrolled consumption of sweet carbonated drinks (allergic nature of the disease) is to blame.

At the Good Doctor's Clinic, cryptitis is successfully treated in both adults and young patients, guaranteeing full recovery!
