Why do men gain weight - whether because of hereditary factors, because of age or due to something simpler ?!
Experts from Pennsylvania State University believe that there is an innate predisposition to obesity, but the reasons for its epidemiological nature lately should not be sought only in genes. According to them, they cannot evolve so fast in two or three decades.
Men fill differently. Scientists conducted an experiment with several pairs of twins. And while in the same way of eating the twins of one couple gained weight at the same pace, in others there was a difference in the accumulated weight. Some couples gained less than 4 kg, while others gained more than 11 kg.
There are few men who can continue to eat indefinitely and stay lean. Some are more prone to gaining weight than others. It is believed that rapid weight gain in childhood is associated with an increased risk of obesity in adulthood.
It is not clear whether gaining weight in childhood is the cause of obesity in adulthood, whether they are interdependent or whether genes are to blame for being overweight. Of course, the thesis that overweight and obesity are the result of modern culture should not be overlooked. There are also cases when a certain type of metabolism is built in childhood and it continues to influence our eating habits in the future.
The fact that we consume much more food than the body needs and at the same time a sedentary lifestyle is increasingly taking over our daily lives can not be ignored.
For one sitting at the table, the man eats 70% more food than the woman. Since childhood, the man is like a food processing machine. "He is a boy and he needs more strength. Let him eat well. ”Is the principle by which most current generations of men are raised. For women, things are different. From an early age, the girl learns to think about what she eats and whether she will gain weight from a certain type and amount of food. For boys, this model of upbringing is missing, it is yet to be built.
The fact is that in the seventies in restaurants and cookbooks portions became larger. In the 1980s, the opposite trend was already observed.
Experts conclude that it is impossible to provoke people to eat smaller amounts. It turns out that the method is more successful in encouraging the selection of food products so that they are healthy and lower in calories.
Genetic research has been done, which gives hope that in ten years will be invented drugs to treat obesity. There are over 25 genes that are responsible for weight gain. Each person can wear at least 12 of them. It is unlikely in principle to find such a preparation that acts against the influence of all 25 genes. Undertaking the production of medicines on individual predispositions is economically unprofitable for pharmaceutical companies and too expensive as a value of the final product for consumers. So the advice to avoid overeating and to be physically active enough is valid and remains valid.
