Here are 3 examples of popular diets that promise even a relatively reasonable loss of 4-5 kg of body weight per month, built on improper restriction of food.
One can hardly boast of achieving a good figure with an extreme diet in a few weeks, provided that it is healthy. In fact, a good figure is the result of a culture of nutrition, consistent food intake in terms of energy expenditure and the right choice of products that provide building material for the components of the body.
Here are 3 examples of popular diets that promise even a relatively reasonable loss of 4-5 kg of body weight per month, built on improper restriction of food. We know, however, that such diets lead to health problems ...
1. The Ducan diet
The regimen, compiled by French physician and nutritionist Pierre Ducan, is based on four stages: consumption of unlimited protein, transition to a meat and vegetable consumption plan, introduction of fruits and bread, and a varied diet, but provided that one day in only meat is consumed again during the week. Mandatory ingredient in the Ducan diet are oat bran - they should be taken daily in an amount equal to 3 tbsp. In order for the diet to work, however, it is necessary to give up sweet products.
However, such a diet is easily refuted by nutritionists. By logic, everyone can judge their rights. Carbohydrates make up a large portion of the food we eat. Moreover, they are the basic products lying on the lowest floor of the food chain. In this sense, the deprivation or even severe restriction of pasta products will subsequently lead to weight reduction, of course, if, on the other hand, their energy value is not replaced by other products.
However, hardly anyone could consume so many vegetables and fruits in their diet. We do not even deliver the recommended amount in our daily lives, what is left if we have to eat three times as much! Dukan excludes nuts. Fat is also limited.
Why does the effect of the diet not last long? Here is what David Levitski, a professor of psychology and nutrition at Cornell University in New York, said:
"When we eliminate carbohydrates from our diet, we lose weight mainly due to the reduction of water content in the body. The processes of fat reduction in the body are not activated at all. The loss of water content is especially evident on the face, the skin loses its freshness. This problem actually occurs much earlier than weight loss. ”
2. The Atkins Diet
This is one of the most popular diets in a long time, from its inception in 1970 to perhaps the early 1990s. -te. And not by chance. The diet promises weight loss of 7 kg in just 2 weeks! Who wouldn't want to get rid of unwanted fats so easily?
The diet is based on the principle of limiting carbohydrates and consumption of protein-rich foods such as meat, fish, eggs, cheese, nuts, even fats such as butter and oil are allowed. Vegetable salads can also be eaten.
The idea of its author, Dr. Robert Atkins, is that after the lack of carbohydrates as the main and first source of energy, the body turns to depletion of energy stores stored in fat depots.
The weak point of this, as well as any other carbohydrate-free diet - reduction of water content in the body. Decreasing the body's water content leads to changes in metabolism, slow metabolism and a number of health problems. In fact, the damage to health begins long before any results from the diet are apparent. Alas, we face the results years later ...
3. Low-calorie diets
This group includes all diets that limit caloric intake during the day within 500-800 kilocalories. Even for a fine structure, this amount is three times less to cover the body's energy needs for the functioning of its organs. There is also a variant with the intake of hormonal supplements or injections based on the human hormone gonadropin - a hormone that is released in the female body during pregnancy. These diets cannot be approved by any healthcare organization.
The reason for the failure of these regimes is that by reducing the amount of food and slowing down metabolic processes, the body adjusts to work on "economy mode" and wastes less energy. At the same time, however, it accumulates reserves from each ingestion of more food. The first obvious effect is the constant fatigue, sleepiness and irritability of the weight loss.
Due to the greatly reduced food intake, usually the lack of variety of foods, the body can not get the necessary valuable substances and nutrients. Every organ and system suffers from deficiencies. Defects are at stake, which in the long run manifest themselves as diseases. The immune system suffers severely. If you accidentally become susceptible to infections or suffer from chronic ones after years - knowing that the diet has "broken" an element of it that is already difficult, even impossible, to recover.
With regard to hormonal intake - the results of 24 studies presented in a detailed report published in the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, show that they do not help reduce weight and fat, including in cases of obesity, and do not suppress appetite. On the other hand, they are the reason for the deterioration of the self-confidence of the recipients.
So, if you want to lose weight, first think about whether the diet offered to you can not be refuted by logic, check what price you will pay in terms of health and better talk to a specialist how beneficial to your physique and manner of life you can lose unwanted weight.
