5 Foods That Are Driving The World Crazy

Popularity comprehends not only fashion trends, gadgets and bloggers. Food is not far behind. And today some of them are really at the peak of their fame. They are talked about and written about without hiding their delight, they are sold even in the smallest stores, and those who have not yet had a chance to try them are looked at least strangely.

What are these incredible products that everyone is talking about?

1. Avocado

It is difficult to imagine that avocados existed before. Its popularity has increased exponentially over the past few years. This fruit is chosen for its high content of monounsaturated fats, which are beneficial for the body. The use of avocados can favorably affect the work of the cardiovascular system, and there is more potassium in it than in a banana, which is most often presented as a record holder.

Yes, avocados are indeed rich in healthy fats. But you can get them from the usual products: unrefined sunflower and olive oil, nuts, fatty fish. It's as simple as that, but these products have fewer ads. So if you love guacamole, or love avocado toast with your morning coffee, eat well. But it is not worth exaggerating the significance, and even more so the uniqueness of this fruit.

2. Chia

The second most popular product after avocado, perhaps, is chia. Everywhere they only talk about the fact that these seeds were eaten in the Mayan tribe. Then they were either banned, or simply not in demand, but returned relatively recently. But how triumphant! Chia seeds are rich in antioxidants, calcium, magnesium and phosphorus, 40% fiber, high in protein and omega-3 - a real find, not a product.

But if you look in more detail, it turns out that antioxidants and omega-3s in chia are of plant origin, which means that our body absorbs them much worse than salmon fat, for example. There is no scientific evidence that the high content of fiber and protein in the seeds contribute to weight loss. So if you do not eat fish, then chia may well be an alternative. As well as cheaper flax seeds, by the way, or walnuts. In addition, the gelling properties of chia add an interesting texture to yogurt or porridge. For variety - what you need. But it is hardly worth waiting for a miraculous effect.

3. Spirulina

Algae is taken as a beneficial supplement, most commonly in powder or tablet form. Spirulina is rich in calcium, potassium, magnesium, B vitamins, iron, amino acids and protein. They say that even the Egyptian pharaohs knew about its miraculous properties, so they added it to their diet.

But here, as with chia, there is one caveat - the body absorbs all these nutrients from plant foods much worse, if at all. In addition, it is still not proven that the consumption of spirulina can lower cholesterol, weight or cure diabetes. So instead of a nutritional supplement, it is better to buy fresh vegetables, fruits or fish.

4. Coconut oil

The oil, which until recently was used more in cosmetology, has recently won a place next to other superfoods. It contains a lot of healthy fats, increases the level of good cholesterol, can satisfy hunger and lower blood sugar.

Coconut oil contains saturated fat. According to recent studies, it increases not only the level of good cholesterol, but also bad. Scientific evidence of the benefits of this oil over others, corn or olive, for example, also does not yet exist. To put it simply, coconut oil is okay to consume from time to time, but probably not daily.

5. Goji Berries

These berries also have a history, they were used in ancient Chinese medicine. They are most often sold in dried form and are somewhat reminiscent of raisins. Goji is rich in vitamins C and A, zinc, antioxidants and protein. They contain fiber and slow carbohydrates, after their use, the blood sugar level rises gradually and without jumps.

But are they unique? Alas, not again. Similar nutritional value can be obtained from strawberries and blueberries, sweet peppers and herbs, pomegranate juice, and oily fish. If you want to lose weight with goji, know that their effect is to remove fluid from the body, and not to burn fat. With the same success, you can drink brewed rose hips, in which, by the way, there will be more vitamin C.

Sometimes it seems that marketers are popularizing certain products, and most often people who want to lose weight or find the secret of eternal youth pick up the idea. Adherents of the keto diet consider avocado and coconut oil to be their favorites, goji berries are a godsend for those who are looking for a miracle diet pill, and chia helps everyone at once. But if you eat a balanced diet, eat a lot of vegetables and fruits, play sports and lead a healthy lifestyle, then no superfoods are simply needed. And if you don't do any of these, the "miracle" ingredient is unlikely to exist for you.
