Two or three cups of coffee a day reduces the risk of breast cancer, while alcohol consumption increases it, according to two recent studies. According to the Swedish Scientific Institute, coffee reduces the procarcinogenic effect of female sex hormones, and caffeine itself - inhibits the growth of malignant cells.

For now, however, it is too early to draw definite conclusions and advise women to change their habits. It has been found that the positive effect is present depending on the presence of a particular gene. It, in combination with coffee, reduces the risk by 30%.

A US study, meanwhile, has shown that alcohol, regardless of its type, has a carcinogenic effect. According to a health organization in Auckland, California, consuming two glasses of alcohol a day leads to a 10% higher probability of breast cancer.
