Generally speaking, the more saturated a fruit or vegetable has, the more antioxidants it has. And when we eat different fruits and vegetables, we give our body different nutritional supplements that work together to make it healthier.

Fruits and vegetables have a wide range of vitamins and minerals, are high in water, low in calories and fat, and no cholesterol. They are a good source of fiber, which satisfies hunger and aids digestion.

Experts divide fruits and vegetables into five categories, according to colors: red, yellow / orange, green, blue / purple / black and white / brown:

1. Consumption of red fruits supports the activity of your heart, stimulates brain function and reduces the risk of cancer. In addition, they contain:
- beta-carotene - the antioxidant useful for the eyes and protects against cardiovascular disorders,
- lycopene - reduces the risk of cancer,
- anthocyanin - takes care of the blood and stops inflammatory processes,
- vitamin C - keeps teeth, gums, bones healthy , skin, muscles, cartilage, blood vessels and the immune system. In addition, vitamin C helps the body absorb iron.

2. Yellow and orange fruits and vegetables are rich in vitamin C and folic acid and contain carotenoids such as beta-carotene. Carotenoids support the immune system, reduce the risk of vision loss and normalize cholesterol levels.

3. Green vegetables (broccoli, Brussels sprouts and cabbage) reduce the risk of certain cancers, heart disorders and respiratory problems. They are rich in vitamin B and folic acid and maintain vision, strengthen the immune system and protect red blood cells, bones and teeth.

4. Blue, purple and black fruits and vegetables reduce the risk of some cancers, maintain memory and heart function. Blueberries are a real champion due to their high content of antioxidants.

5. White and brown fruits and vegetables support the heart and also protect against some cancers. They supply the body with phytochemicals such as folic acid, potassium, selenium and vitamin C. They help fight high cholesterol and support the immune system.
