Americans have studied how the consumption of certain types of beverages affects body weight in people of different ages. It turns out that the intake of calories in the form of liquids is no less dangerous for the figure. More than 800 people were covered - between 25 and 79 years old, observed for 18 months.

Weight gain is the result of imbalance between calories and energy expenditure. Undoubtedly, part of any weight loss regimen is in the first place to reduce the ration of food. It turns out that even if the amount of solid food does not change, then to a large extent the restriction of liquids with high energy value can show good results. For example, giving up just one of the sugary drinks we indulge in every day can lead to the loss of a seemingly insignificant pound in six months, and almost one after 18 months. If we completely ignore them, the results will be even more impressive.

The data are presented in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
