The additive E 129 is a synthetic dye of chemical origin. It is a powder or granules of dark red or orange color. It dissolves well in water, its shade is similar to E 124. In combination with blue coloring, a violet shade is possible, and with yellow a brown color is obtained. Alura red is resistant to light and temperatures up to 135ºС. Initially, E 129 was derived from coal tar. Today, the colorant is produced from petroleum products. It belongs to the dangerous substances.

Use

Allura red was originally used in the United States as a substitute for the more dangerous Amaranth. Compared to other colorants, E 129 is defined as less harmful, so its use in the food industry is permitted. It is used in the production of confectionery, medicines, cosmetics, incl. and makeup; also in the making of biscuits, chocolates, cereals.

The permissible daily amount is 7 mg / kg body weight. In Russia, the use of the additive is allowed in bitter carbonated drinks and wines, in some sausages (sausages), ice cream, frozen fruits, desserts, yogurt. It is also used in the production of canned fruits, jellies, bakery products, herbs, spices, sauces, mustard.

E 129 is used for stamping meat, added to liquid detergents (shampoos, gels, foams), and is approved for use in medicine and cosmetics for coloring medicines.

Impact on humans

Once the dye is widely used in production, there are suspicions that it may be carcinogenic and cause cancer. But E 129 poses the least risk to human health compared to other supplements. People who are sensitive to aspirin should not use products containing Alurara red. This substance causes allergic reactions, hypersensitivity and activity in children.
