The anato-pigment dissolves well in fats obtained from oleander seeds. This colorant is resistant to light and acids. It is able to interact with proteins and starch, prolongs the shelf life of products.

Bioxin and norbixin are anato-extracts that can change the color of the product under the influence of high temperatures. This property allows the same product to receive different shades.

E 160b is approved for use in all EU countries and in Russia.

Use

In the food industry it is used in the coloring of yogurt, cheese, puddings, oils, margarines, bakery products, some alcoholic beverages and confectionery. The additive is also used in the production of soaps, paints, fabrics and colors.

Impact on humans

The harm of E 160b is defined as relatively small, but it is better for children not to consume products in which the supplement is present in order to avoid allergic reactions. In some cases, anato-extracts can cause an increase in blood pressure. The toxicity of bixin and norbixin must be confirmed.
