Potassium tartrate E 336 is a natural antioxidant, used as an acidity regulator, stabilizer, oxidizer, emulsifier. The food supplement is a mixture of organic substances, similar in physical and chemical parameters. Obtained by the separation of sludge in winemaking.

E 336 is a white crystal, easily soluble in water, insoluble in solvents of organic origin (fats, ethanol). Potassium tartrate is the main raw material in the production of tartaric acid.

Use

The additive is used in the food industry as an antioxidant, acidity regulator, emulsifier, stabilizer. Contained in ready-made soups, marmalades, jams, jellies, jelly candies, juices, concentrates. In pasta and pastries E 336 is added as a leavening agent; winemaking also needs the substance.

The additive is approved for use in most countries around the world.

Impact on humans

As potassium tartrate is of natural origin, the harm from its use is minimal. It affects the human venous system, reduces the flow of venous blood, and therefore the complications of varicose veins and hemorrhoids. The supplement is a diuretic, regulates bile secretion, has a mild laxative effect.

E 336 is not recommended for use by children and people prone to diarrhea, flatulence.
