Sulfuric acid is a completely transparent colorless or slightly brown liquid, oily and very aggressive. Obtained by burning a mixture of nitrate and sulfur.
In the food industry, mainly 10% sulfuric acid solution is used. Used to regulate the acidity of beverages. Sometimes it acts as a catalyst for the inversion of sugars. Contaminated yeast can be treated with the substance, which makes it possible to destroy foreign microorganisms without damaging the activity of the yeast. It is also used in refining fats.
In addition to the food industry, the additive is used in the production of mineral fertilizers, it is needed for the production of various salts and mineral acids. In the chemical industry it is used for the production of dyes, chemical fibers, explosives and fumes. Sulfuric acid is often used in the textile, metalworking, petroleum and leather industries.
Sulfuric acid is aggressive and very dangerous to humans. Contact with skin and mucous membranes leads to severe chemical burns and tissue necrosis. When inhaling the vapors of E 513, there is a cough, difficulty breathing; often develop bronchitis, tracheitis, laryngitis.
