Regular family gatherings for dinner create good eating habits in children. A survey of 1,500 students in the United States, repeated several years after graduation, found that those who respected family dinners consumed much more fruits and vegetables and were much less likely to indulge in less useful carbonated beverages.
Among the questions in the survey were how often the family gathers, whether they are together for breakfast, lunch, dinner, whether it is pleasant. Those for whom this is a tradition, have similar habits when they grow up. They also provided them with adequate intake of certain minerals such as calcium, magnesium, many vitamins and enough fiber as children.
