Bread, melon, tomatoes, onions, potatoes, honey and basil are just some of the foods that should not be stored in the refrigerator.
Putting food in the cold keeps them fresher for longer. Unfortunately, this is not the case for all foods . Here are some foods that should not be refrigerated.
The best place to store potatoes is not in the refrigerator, but in paper bags or nets in a cool, dry place. Why shouldn't they be put in the fridge? Because the starch they contain turns into sugar.
Onions should also not be stored in the refrigerator, as moisture inside will cause them to soften. It is best to store in a dry and well-ventilated place, which at the same time should be dark so that the onions do not sprout. The same goes for garlic .
Storing tomatoes in the refrigerator damages their membrane , and then the taste and aroma of the vegetables change. Chilled tomatoes actually have a slightly watery and unripe appearance.
In the summer, we usually store the bread in the refrigerator so that it does not mold, but also to last longer. Putting it there, however, makes it tougher. In addition, due to the humid and cold temperature, the drying process is accelerated .
Placing copper in the refrigerator causes it to crystallize . Accordingly, honey is sugared much faster than if stored at room temperature. To keep it fresh and in liquid form, the honey cap must be tightly sealed.
If left in the refrigerator for a long time, the melon will lose some of its nutritional value , including the antioxidants in it. It is best to store melons in a dry and ventilated place, and the temperature should be normal or room temperature.
It may turn black if stored in the refrigerator for too long. When detached, it is best to keep in a shady place and immerse the stems in water.
Other foods that should also not be kept in the refrigerator are: bananas, avocados and chocolate.
