Someone gains extra pounds due to sedentary work, someone - from a passion for harmful products. The forms and causes of excess weight are diverse.
Excess weight and its consequences are one of the serious health problems around the world. Experts of the World Health Organization have calculated that since 1980, the number of obese people has more than doubled. This problem is also relevant for Ukraine. According to the State NDC on food hygiene issues, more than half of our country's residents are overweight.
Before starting to lose weight, it is important to find out the leading cause of excess body weight. Someone is used to "eating" stresses, which are becoming more and more; someone eats on the go all day, and before going to bed they eat their fill in two. Someone quit physical education and started gaining weight. Many have a combination of several reasons for being overweight.
It's no secret that excess weight can create not only an aesthetic and psychological problem, but also provokes the development of many diseases - cardiovascular, diabetes, joint diseases, and some types of cancer.
Understanding the forms and causes of excess weight will help to successfully fight it.
Causes of overweightAs you know, the main reason for overweight and obesity is that the number of calories entering the body exceeds the calories expended. But to understand where this imbalance comes from, you have to understand the deeper reasons. They can be conditionally divided into three categories:
As a rule, all reasons are combined, complement and reinforce each other. For example, because of a bad mood, a person does not want to go for a walk or do sports. She is always tempted to eat out of boredom. She understands that this has a bad effect on weight. But if she fails to follow the diet, her mood deteriorates even more. And again she reaches for food as "medicine" for anxiety, sits at home and misses. As you can see, it is a closed circle.
In each specific case, one or another reason for overweight prevails. The peculiarities of the process of gaining excess weight and approaches to losing weight depend on this. The hyperphagic form (associated with excess food), the hypodynamic form (associated with a lack of movement) and the psychogenic form (caused by the influence of stress on a change in eating behavior) are conventionally distinguished.
Let's consider these forms in more detail.
Hyperphagic form of overweight. This form refers to people who can be called gluttons. The fact is that most obese people eat no more than the average person with a normal weight, but more than they personally need. Hence the extra kilograms. But the glutton eats more than the average. Some become gluttons for beliefs - they perceive life as a holiday and believe that there should be plenty of everything, including delicious food.
Others can be called gluttons by circumstances - they eat what they have to. For example, if at work a person is forced to often participate in lavish business lunches, then his weight will gradually increase.
The third category is gluttons out of ignorance. They can influence their excessively caloric diet, but they do not attach due importance to nutrition.
It is easier for people from this category to lose weight than others: as a rule, they are quite mobile and do not have psychological problems. So, it is quite simple to change the diet.
Hypodynamic form. Characteristic for people of sedentary professions who do not know how to actively rest, but spend their free time with a book or in front of the TV. However, representatives of this form do not eat very much, and food consumption does not depend on mood. Therefore, the first step to losing weight is to increase physical activity. You can start with walking, dancing, exercise, simple exercises. A cool shower and a general toning massage contribute to the process of losing weight. Strict diets are not necessary in this case - limit foods with hidden fat (boiled sausages, sausages, sunflower oil in salads, seeds, nuts). As motor activity is restored, the diet can be reduced, but not more than 30% of the initial caloric content.
The forms and causes of excess weight are interrelated. If a person representing one of these two forms of excess weight ignores the problem, sooner or later he may develop the third - psychogenic form.
The psychogenic form of overweight is the most common. Overeating helps such people calm down if they are worried about any life problems and difficulties. In other cases, excess weight itself becomes a source of stress and anxiety, if a person breaks the diet, or the lost kilograms quickly return.
In this case, it is desirable that a psychologist or psychotherapist participate in the process of losing weight. A specialist will help a person calm down and understand the causes of anxiety. It is possible that after getting rid of the situation that torments her, a person will begin to lose weight even without diets.
