Gangrene is a disease characterized by necrotic changes in the skin tissue, limbs or organs that are associated with circulatory failure, blockage of blood vessels. First of all, necrosis affects those organs and tissues that have direct contact with the environment: respiratory organs, esophagus, stomach; limbs - hands and especially toes and feet.

In gangrene, tissues and muscles are damaged due to poor blood circulation.

The disease is common in people with diabetes, so it is very important to emphasize a healthy diet and control sugar intake.

It is very important to modify your diet and include more protein in your diet, because this way your body will receive more nutrients, and exercise will help the proper blood circulation and "nutrition" of the organs and limbs.

How to eat with gangrene

If you are prone to gangrene or already suffer from the disease, it is very important to be careful with your menu. It is important to limit some foods and reduce others. (In the following tables, forbidden foods are marked in red and permitted foods in green.)

Turn off:

  • Sugar - in all forms, including sweeteners such as aspartame;
  • Margarines and artificial fats;
  • Limit preservatives as much as possible.
Allowed and forbidden fruits:
  • Especially sweet fruits (fresh or dried), such as grapes, raisins, prunes, dates, figs, pineapple, apricots - they are high in sugar;
  • Melons, watermelons - again high in sugar;
  • bananas, oranges, grapefruit - again should be avoided because of the high sugar content.
  • Completely stop consuming fruit juices - fresh or bottled.

You can consume:

  • Berries, blueberries, raspberries, lemon, lime.
 Allowed and prohibited vegetables and cereals:
  • Kale, spinach, beet leaves, fennel, arugula;
  • broccoli, cabbage (red and white), Chinese cabbage, lettuce, cauliflower, zucchini, Brussels sprouts, celery
  • cucumbers;
  • onions, tomatoes, peppers, parsley
  • carrots and vegetables growing underground (due to the high sugar content);
  • white and red potatoes, beets;
  • corn, popcorn, lace;
  • cereals - rye, barley, rice, millet, quinoa, oats, amaranth, etc.
Fat:
  • Eat more foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, DHA and EPA:
  • Cod liver (especially in spring and autumn);
  • Flaxseed (not butter!) - ground, mixed with vegetables and salads.
  • Use cold-pressed olive oil, and for cooking grape seed oil.

Exclude all seed oils that are rich in omega-6.

Beverages:
  • Consume clean filtered or spring water at room temperature.
  • Lemon and lime juice can be added a little to the water.
  • The amount of water is 1 liter for every 25 kilograms.
  • Vegetable juices are allowed.
  • Green tea in limited quantities.
  • coffee, tea, carbonated drinks, juices;
Proteins:
  • Meat from free-range animals - beef, veal, poultry;
  • fish - flounder, salmon, sardines, tilapia;
  • eggs - organic eggs, not fried (2-3 per week)
  • seeds - only raw - sunflower, pumpkin seed, sesame, flaxseed;
  • nuts - only raw - cashews, Brazil nuts, almonds, pecans.
  • fatty pork - shanks, bacon;
  • shellfish - lobsters and crabs, shrimp, mussels;
  • peanuts.
Legumes and cereals:
  • In limited quantities, as they are an incomplete source of protein and contain many carbohydrates. Soak the beans for 48-72 hours, rinse every 12 hours and cook for 8-12 hours on low heat.
  • Exclude soy products, soy protein powder, soy flour, tofu.

The menu should contain a sufficient amount of protein, fiber and good cholesterol. The latter is found in nuts and seeds (pumpkin, flax, sesame), in fatty fish (mackerel, tuna, sardines) and olive oil.

If you suffer from gangrene, you should exclude from your menu fatty, spicy and salty foods, alcohol, sweet carbonated beverages, smoked products, as well as products that thicken the blood, for example: bananas, potatoes, fresh nettle leaves and more.
Active exercise helps blood circulation, which provides enough blood and oxygen to the limbs, which can help prevent gangrene, including proper diet.
