Bananas are fruits that spoil quickly. This is the reason why for a long time they are not delivered from the tropical countries where they grow. Today, bananas are still green and reach our latitudes in special containers that maintain the optimum temperature for the fruit.

Before being put on the market, they are treated with gas, so that they mature evenly. In supermarkets, traders also create conditions for slow ripening, but at home bananas spoil quickly and have to be consumed shortly after purchase.

Of course, it is impossible to create special conditions at home, but there are some subtleties that will help keep bananas fresh for a long time without turning black.

 

The first thing to consider is that when buying a whole bunch of yellow fruits, it is good to choose greener - they will certainly last longer than others. Never take bananas whose skin is damaged, has dents or brown spots / spots, as this indicates that they are in a phase of contempt.

Most useful substances are contained in bananas with a peel that has a bright yellow color. However, they should be consumed within a day, as they then begin to turn black gradually.

The best temperature for tropical sweetness is 12 to 14 degrees. In addition, the humidity in the room should be high (about 90%). Of course, at home there can be no such parameters, usually the temperatures are higher and the humidity is lower.

When we talk about storing bananas, we must also say that it is different depending on whether the fruit is well ripened or not.

There are two general rules :

1. Bananas should not be exposed to sunlight;
2. Immediately after purchase, remove from the envelope or package.

 

Storage of unripe bananas

If you are one of the people who usually buy green bananas , you should know that you should not put them in the refrigerator. Instead, take advantage of one of the following storage methods that will help them mature properly:

  • put them in the fruit bowl together with ripe fruits;
  • put in a dark paper bag with apples and tomatoes;
  • hang the connection with bananas in a ventilated room, for example, in a dark corner of the terrace.

In order not to quickly overripe the yellow tropical fruits, wrap the stems in their base with plastic wrap.

You can put it in the fridge only when stains start to appear on their crusts. If you do this earlier, the fruit will not be able to fully ripen, even after storage at room temperature.

 

Storage of ripe bananas

It is recommended to separate the fruits, they should not remain as a connection. To keep them fresh for longer, you can put them in a bowl with fruits such as avocados and pears, which are also not fully ripe.

You can also wrap the stalks of ripe bananas in plastic wrap. This will prevent the release of gas, which accelerates the maturation process.

 

Store bananas in the refrigerator

Although it is not desirable, sometimes we have to put the fruit in the refrigerator, especially when it turns out that the amount is such that we can not eat quickly. If this is the case, you could wrap the bananas in a paper bag and place them away from the refrigerator (for example, on the door or on the "warmest" shelf of an otherwise cold appliance).

If you still let your tropical yellow friends turn black, don't throw them away! You can mash them and add them to the pancake batter, for example, or use them to make a filling for a delicious gingerbread cake with cream and chocolate .
