More Meat - More Pounds

In just 5 years, meat lovers gain more weight than those who avoid meat products, but take the same amount of calories ...

British scientists have found that restricting meat and meat products can help us maintain our good physical condition for longer.

The study covered more than 100,000 men and about 270,000 women from 10 European countries.

The results show that in just five years, meat lovers gain more weight than those who avoid meat products or consume limited amounts but consume the same amount of calories.

Poultry have the strongest connection with the accumulation of excess weight, followed by processed products and red meat.

It turned out that the Danes, Germans, Spaniards and Swedes are the biggest fans of meat products. On average, 300 calories in the daily menu of men were due to meat, and for women - about 200 calories.

Experts have found that the more meat a person consumes, the more he gains weight. Each additional 250 grams of meat eaten daily, which is the equivalent of a steak of 450 calories, would lead to gaining about 2 pounds in 5 years.

According to the author of the study, Dr. Anne-Claire Vernoy, although it does not seem disturbing at first glance, gaining weight by two kilograms every five years can have serious consequences for human health in the future.

The study, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
