For people with asthma, obesity can be an additional problem. In persons with obesity, the frequency of hospitalizations due to exacerbated symptoms of the disease is five times higher.

This was the conclusion of a study of 1,113 patients with at least 35 years of asthma. Smoking, oral corticosteroid therapy, gastroesophageal reflux are taken into account when considering the influencing factors.

Compared with patients with a normal body mass index, those with a pathologically elevated body mass index are about 2.7 times more likely to have poor asthma control and are 4.6 times more likely to be hospitalized for worsening.

Obviously, observations of asthmatics with problem weight should be more careful to reduce the incidence of complications and improve therapeutic control.
