Peanut Butter And Nuts Against Lumps In The Breast

This is not the first time they have shown how useful they are for girls, and this time the conclusion is supported by solid evidence.

Consumption of more peanut butter and nuts in late adolescence by girls brings benefits to breast health later in life, according to a US study published in the journal Breast Cancer Research and Treatment.

The team of Dr. Graham Colditz of the School of Medicine at the University of Washington in St. Louis estimates that girls between the ages of 9 and 15 who eat peanut butter and nuts twice a week are 39% less likely to develop benign breast formations up to 30 years of age.

Benign tumors include cysts and fibrotic changesof breast tissue. Cysts are fluid-filled, capsule-like formations, while fibrous tissue resembles that of wound healing and scarring.

Such changes in the breast create the feeling of a lump , but in these examples it is not cancer. At the same time there may be complaints of tension, swelling and pain in the chest. Occasionally there is a discharge from the nipple.

Although such lumps in the breast are not cancer, their presence indicates an increased risk of developing breast cancer later in life. The results of the study, according to Dr. Colditz, suggest that peanut butter somehow reduces the risk of developing breast tumors.

The findings are based on data from more than 9,000 girls who took part in a US national youth growth survey between 1996 and 2001, which provided detailed data on their eating habits .

Attached to it is information about medical manipulations, such as a biopsy for breast cancer of the same persons for the period 2005-2010, when they are between 18 and 30 years old.

The analysis of the data already leads to the conclusion about the usefulness of peanut butter and nuts, and it is also assumed that the consumption of legumes and cereals has a similar effect. For them, however, the conclusion cannot be definite, as there is no such accountability for the frequency of their consumption by children.

Such information is important for those girls and women whose family history has a close relative with breast cancer. Doctors emphasize that the vegetable proteins and fats themselves are useful in these foods in general.

This study is not the only one to find a reduced risk of breast disease from eating peanut butter and nuts, but it is the first time that evidence has been drawn from a comparative analysis between dietary data and breast disease. It would definitely be wise for girls to start eating more of these foods at the expense of junk foods and sugary drinks, Dr. Colditz said.

The study was financially supported by the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and the US National Institutes of Health.
