A monotonous and tasteless diet can cause serious nervous and mental disorders, say Israeli researchers.
They found in a special study that tasteless food lowers emotional tone, makes people apathetic and at best leads to chronic fatigue.
Thus, a strict diet that includes foods that do not suit the individual's taste can lead to a profound neurotic disorder.
Any monotonous food or food that is not tasty, reduces the emotional background, causes lethargy and provokes physical fatigue, experts say in an article in the American Journal of Public Health. When they follow a strict diet consisting of foods they generally do not like, people inflict psychological trauma, which can develop into a nervous disorder, the authors added.
According to experts, people with a depressed attitude react even more painfully to a monotonous diet.
As they do not feel a pleasant taste, depressed patients eat automatically and do not realize the amount consumed. This causes weight gain. 30% of people in a depressed state gain weight.
Victims of "dietary" depression are mainly women because they are more likely to follow grueling diets. As a result, the brain is deficient in important substances and sends alarm and tension signals to all organs. One begins to feel tense, irritable, unhappy. In psychiatry, there is even the concept of dietary depression.
The scientists conclude that if the same diet is followed for a long time, it disrupts metabolism, ketone bodies accumulate in the body, which negatively affects the brain and also leads to heart problems.
Experts say that when a person is depressed, he changes his taste perception. His food seems tasteless, and even his favorite treats no longer please him, so the patient begins to swallow larger amounts of food purely mechanically. In a state of depression, 30% of people gain weight.
The most common victims of dietary depression are women who follow strict diets. In such a situation, the brain does not receive nutrients and sends signals of anxiety and tension. One begins to feel unhappy, dissatisfied, begins to quarrel with loved ones. And this condition can easily lead to one of two extremes - bulimia or anorexia. If a monodiet, such as a dairy diet, is followed for a long time, due to a violation of the metabolism, ketone bodies accumulate in the body, which exhaust the brain and cause cardiovascular problems.
