Social Initiatives In The Fight Against The Coronavirus

What is being done in the world and in Ukraine to help those in need during the quarantine, and how you can join the fight against the coronavirus.

The pandemic and quarantine have become another test for all of humanity. Someone does not take the danger seriously and jokes about it, someone is ready to barricade themselves at home until next year, and everyone feels a familiar feeling of helplessness. However, there is one recipe for overcoming the crisis and making your life and someone else's a little better - mutual help. In these difficult times, Ukrainians unite, because together we are a force. What is being done in the world and in Ukraine to help those who need it during the quarantine , and how you can join the fight against the  coronavirus .

Assistance to pensioners

Elderly people are not under the greatest threat at the moment. After all, it is the 60+ category that is most at risk of the coronavirus , as they are advised to strictly adhere to quarantine measures and not to leave the house. In the meantime, you need to eat something, and not all old women have children and grandchildren who can take care of them. That is why there are volunteer groups in almost all cities of Ukraine that help the elderly: they buy water and food for them, they can go get medicine, walk their pets, take out the trash, or simply check on their well-being.

Charitable funds

In addition to new initiatives , charitable foundations continue to work actively . According to official data, for example, about 12,000 lonely elderly people live in Kyiv alone. For example, the " Zhyttelyub " and "Starenky" funds collect funds to provide the older generation with food. Meanwhile, the "Let's help" foundation takes care of more than 8,000 people from geriatric boarding houses. Also, such funds as "Youth for Peace" and "Help the Homeless" take care of providing food to the homeless and the elderly . All these organizations will be happy for any financial or volunteer help . These are just a few examples, because local philanthropists operate in many cities of Ukraine.

Food for doctors

Doctors protect us on the front lines of the fight against the coronavirus , so the least we can do is to improve their working conditions. While many garment factories begin to sew masks and protective suits, food delivery services and restaurants take care of the nutrition of doctors.

For example, as part of the #SupportDoctors social  initiative , Box Catering in Kyiv and Odesa can order and pay for a hot lunch for doctors of medical institutions fighting the coronavirus pandemic .

Since the beginning of the quarantine , Mafia Ukraine, a chain of Italian restaurants, has been providing comprehensive hot lunches to doctors from Kharkiv, Kyiv, and soon Dnipro.

In Lviv, Vinnytsia and Ivano-Frankivsk pizzeria LA PEC supported the #pizzamedikam initiative and passed it on to their colleagues in the workshop.

And more and more companies are taking up such an initiative and offering their food options for doctors.

Help online

In order not to get lost and to help all those in need and those who want to, the website https://covid19help.com.ua/, which was created as part of the social initiative "Positive virus", became operational. On the site you can find a database of volunteer organizations divided into thematic categories. In each of them, everyone who needs it (doctors, pensioners, vulnerable sections of the population, other citizens) can come in and ask for help . There is also a separate section on the website for those who want to help .
