The term 'superfoods' refers to those foods that can offer a maximum of nutrients for a minimum number of calories . They are rich in vitamins , minerals and antioxidants . Most superfoods are plant-based. 
 
Antioxidants are natural molecules that can be found in certain foods and can help neutralize free radicals from the body that lead to cell damage. 
 
Antioxidants reduce or reverse the negative effects caused by free radicals, which are closely linked to the development of cardiovascular disease, arthritis , stroke , respiratory diseases and other inflammatory ones. 
 
Here are two examples of superfoods:
 

Forest fruits

Due to the high levels of flavonoids , there is evidence that these fruits reduce the risk of heart attack . Blueberries are high in fiber, magnesium and vitamin K . Cranberries are rich in specific flavonoids that help reduce the risk of urinary tract infections . 
 
Goji berries are small red fruits that are rich in vitamins C and E, along with many different types of flavonoids. They are often used in Eastern medicine as an aid in the treatment of diabetes and hypertension , to maintain the health of the eyes, liver and kidneys. 
 
 

Soybeans

Soy has a high concentration of isoflavones and a type of phytochemicals . Isoflavones have been shown to reduce the levels of "bad" cholesterol in the body. 
 
From the results of several studies it is clear that soy can stop the deterioration of memory with age. Isoflavones are also associated with a reduction in bone loss and an improvement in bone mineral density during menopause . 
 
There is some evidence that it relieves the characteristic symptoms during this period.
