Useful And Harmful Properties Of Cherry Tomatoes

Cherry tomatoes are small tomatoes with different shapes and shades of red. They are a rich source of fiber, vitamins and minerals. They contain the powerful antioxidant lycopene, important for the health of the body.

Cherry tomatoes are a variety of traditional tomatoes that are mainly used as an ingredient in salads and canned food. There are varieties of small tomatoes that are dried. Their shape can be elongated, teardrop-shaped or round, and their color palette is colorful - there are green, red, yellow, orange and pink colored species.

Composition and useful substances

Small fruit vegetables contain calcium, iron, potassium, phosphorus, vitamins C, E, K, group B, antioxidants, organic acids, lycopene and others.

  • Fiber - Cherry tomatoes are full of good fiber. A medium-sized cherry tomato has 1.5 grams of fiber. Most of the fiber (87%) in tomatoes is insoluble and is in the form of hemicellulose, cellulose and lignin.
  • Vitamin C - this is the most common vitamin that takes care of our overall health. It has a strong antioxidant effect, and in one tomato there is about 28% of our daily dose, another plus in the consumption of useful cherry tomatoes.
  • Potassium - another essential mineral that takes care of heart health and stabilizes blood pressure.
  • Vitamin K1 - Also known as phylloquinone, this not-so-popular vitamin is important for blood clotting and bone health.
  • Folate (vitamin B9) - Folate is important for normal tissue growth and cell function. This is especially important for pregnant women.
  • Beta carotene - An antioxidant that often gives a yellow or orange hue, it is converted into vitamin A in the body.
  • Naringenini - found in the peel of tomatoes. This fravonoind reduces inflammation.
  • Chlorogenic acid - a powerful antioxidant compound, lowers blood pressure.

Useful and healing properties

Cherry tomatoes are richer in nutrients than their larger cousin. The presence of potassium in them makes them very valuable for the heart, they also remove excess fluid from the body. Iron is useful in anemia, calcium is needed to strengthen bones, and to improve metabolic processes - phosphorus.

The biggest benefits of cherry tomatoes are due to the presence of lycopene, which provides their saturated red color. Lycopene is a powerful antioxidant that prevents the development of cancer of the stomach, esophagus, intestines and lungs. The substance reduces the risk of pathologies of the cardiovascular system, is a prophylactic against eye diseases and prevents inflammatory processes in the body. As it does not break down under the influence of high temperatures, cherry tomatoes can be cooked without affecting their useful properties.

Cherry tomatoes also contain chromium, which dulls the feeling of hunger and prevents the appearance of a strong one. Vitamin K in their composition stabilizes the absorption of calcium, thus normalizing the functions of the kidneys and bile ducts.

Cellulose in vegetables improves digestive processes, speeds up metabolism. They are rich in serotonin, known as the "happiness hormone", ie they improve mood, reduce anxiety and act as a natural antioxidant.

The low caloric content of fruit vegetables is another plus in the list of useful characteristics.

Harmful properties and contraindications

  • Cherry tomatoes should not be consumed in the presence of peptic ulcer disease, even in remission.
  • Particular care should be taken by people who have metabolic problems.
  • Small vegetables are not recommended for people prone to allergies to any red fruits.

Conclusion

Cherry tomatoes, although small, are full of many nutrients and health benefits. They take care of the heart, hair and skin, and antioxidants help prevent some cancers. The downside to them is that if you suffer from stomach ulcers, you need to be careful in their use. If you do not suffer from allergies or stomach ailments that prohibit the consumption of cherry tomatoes, then include them in your diet to ensure an additional intake of various nutrients, which we often deprive ourselves of in our hectic daily lives.
