What is needed

Decide what exactly you will grow

If you are just starting your gardening journey, it is better to start with a small number of plants. And, also, choose the least demanding, so that the first success will inspire you to venture into larger, or even exotic landings. It's easiest to start with green onions, parsley and cilantro. Also, mint and lemon balm grow well. Pay attention to plant varieties. For home gardening , you need to choose quick-maturing, early varieties, since plants grow much more slowly in an apartment.

Learn the requirements for successful cultivation of each selected plant

This information can be easily found in books, magazines, or - the most popular option - on the Internet. Learn the experience of other gardeners.

Decide on the container, i.e. "beds"

After studying information about plants and their needs, you will know what container you will need for planting. Some plants need space, and some can grow in a very limited space. Some plants will get along perfectly with others in the same container, and for some, a separate "bed" will be necessary. One mandatory condition for all plants at home is drainage — it is necessary to fill the bottom of pots, containers or boxes with expanded clay, clay shards, pieces of brick, etc. As for flower pots, use pallets in which excess moisture will accumulate.

Prepare the soil

Land from street beds is not suitable for a home garden . You need to buy soil in special stores. It already has the right ratio of all the necessary elements, and also there are no various weeds or pests.

Choose a place for a home garden

Most plants need a lot of sunlight, because it is better to place the garden on the south or west side of the house. In winter, additional padding may be needed.

Come up with a design for your home garden

The most exciting and creative item. Of course, it will have little effect on the growth process of the plants themselves, and is not mandatory, but a well-thought-out design of the home garden will decorate your home.

How to fill it in containers, put a thin layer of small pebbles, pieces of broken brick or crushed foam on the bottom. Such drainage is necessary in order to remove excess water during watering, otherwise the plant may rot.

How to start growing at home (PREMIUM)

green onion

To grow this plant at home , you can use either the root part of the bulb (the lower white part, which we usually cut off and throw away), or the whole bulb. They should be placed in a glass jar with a small amount of water and placed on the windowsill - so that the onion receives the necessary amount of sunlight. After some time, you will see the first feathers appear, which can be cut when they reach the length you need. In this simple way, you will always have fresh and natural greens at hand. The main thing is not to forget to add water to the jar about once a week.

Celery, cabbage, romaine lettuce

These vegetables can also be grown in the home garden from the remains of their hard and thickened stems. To do this, you need to pour water into a shallow cup and immerse the cob in it with the roots down. Celery, romaine and cabbage love moisture, so don't forget to add water regularly. After a few days, roots and new leaves will appear, and in about a week the plant can be planted in the soil.

Ginger

To grow ginger at home , you will need a piece of fresh and smooth ginger root with two or three live buds. If the root is very dry, it should be kept in warm water for a while. You need to plant ginger in a pot or box with soil, buds up. The ideal conditions for the plant are a moist, bright and warm place, but without direct sunlight. In addition to the fact that ginger is tasty and useful, it also grows well (resembles reeds), so it can be grown as an ornamental plant.

Potato

Many treat the phrase "planting potatoes" with genuine horror — they say it's easier to buy than to "hunch" in the garden all summer. No wonder, this vegetable is quite easy to grow without leaving home. To do this, you need to take 1 small potato with "eyes", cut it into several parts and leave it at room temperature for several days so that it dries up and does not rot in the ground. It is recommended to plant potatoes in well-fertilized soil. Do not forget that potatoes must be buried to a depth of 20 cm, so choose a sufficiently large and deep container for planting.

Garlic

Growing garlic is also very simple. Take 1-2 cloves with roots and stick them in the ground in a bright, warm place. When the rhizome gets stronger, the garlic will sprout its first shoots. They need to be cut in a timely manner so that they do not take away "energy" and do not interfere with the formation of the head of garlic.

Onions

Surprisingly, at home, you can easily harvest not only green onions, but also onions. To do this, take a bulb, cut off the root part (as for green onions) and plant it in moist soil in your home garden . Do not forget that onions love the sun, so choose a warmer place for them.

Batata

The rules for planting and growing sweet potatoes are not much different from those for regular ones. We take a tuber and send it to moist soil. In about a week, the sweet potato will sprout, and when the leaves reach a length of 10 cm, they can be cut, and another plant can be planted nearby, at a distance of 25-30 cm. Just make sure that slugs don't get on the plant - they really like sweet potatoes. And then in 4 months you will have sweet juicy potatoes.

Mushrooms

But mushrooms are quite difficult to grow at home , let's be honest. They require special conditions - high humidity, special temperature, ventilation and lighting. Mushrooms reproduce with the help of spores, so in order to plant them, mycelium is needed - germinated mushroom spores. The fungus is placed in a special substrate (a mixture of millet, oats, barley, rye and other cereals) - there it takes the form of thin white threads, which then grow into mushrooms. Be very careful: for successful growth, mushrooms need 95% humidity and a temperature not exceeding 20ºС. In addition, during growth, mushrooms emit a rather strong allergen into the air, because it is better to grow them, at least on the balcony or in some separate room.

Pineapple

But turning your home into a tropical island is very easy. It is enough to cut off the top with leaves from the pineapple - do not forget to remove all the pulp, otherwise the plant will rot - and immerse it in a glass of water. After some time, roots will appear on the socket, which means that the pineapple is ready for planting. Remove a few lower leaves and stick the rosette into the soil about 2-3 cm. This fruit is quite undemanding: it tolerates direct sunlight and high temperatures well. The main thing is not to forget to water regularly. And in 1-2 months, young sprouts will appear on the pineapple - it means that it has taken root, and in 2-3 years you will have your first harvest. Your success in home gardening depends on many factors: weather, soil, quality of "seedlings" and, of course, your efforts. But try to start a home gardenstill worth it - interesting, beautiful and economical. In addition, you and your family will be able to observe with your own eyes how well-known products grow, take part in this and be sure of the organic nature of the product. You will be able to enjoy fresh vegetables and greens regardless of the season, weather and budget.
