Taken regularly, ground unripe coffee beans maintain stable weight loss, according to a new study.
Although short, the 22-week study demonstrates that without a change in eating habits, you can lose between 3 and 10 pounds in just one month.
Participants aged 22 to 46 years were divided into two groups: one received only bitter placebo tablets and the other received an extract of ground unripe and unroasted coffee beans.
With minimal healthy physical activity and no dieting, the volunteers in the second group lost much more weight. The higher the dose of coffee product, the faster people lose weight. Professor Joe Vinson of the University of Scranton does not believe that this effect is due to caffeine, but to the chlorogenic acid contained in unroasted beans.
According to scientists, this acid suppresses glucose absorption, which significantly reduces body weight as a result. The acid itself is a potent antioxidant that inhibits the tumor-forming activity of some esters, contributes to the prevention of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease, because it has well-defined properties to lower blood pressure.
There is a mechanism that allows chlorogenic acid to reduce hepatitis glycogenolysis - the conversion of glycogen to glucose, thereby reducing the absorption of new glucose.
However, the compound is highly thermolabile - it decomposes at higher temperatures, which explains its presence only in raw, unroasted coffee beans. Other sources are the bark of the eucomia plant and the fruits of the gardenia, from which up to 20% of extracts are prepared. They provide about one gram of acid per 4-5 g of extract. 15% solutions are prepared from artichoke leaves and hawthorn fruits .
In Prof. Vinson's study, participants took between 700 mg and 1,050 mg per day of chlorogenic acid as a dietary supplement to a personal choice menu. On average, all participants lose about 7 kilograms per month: some have lost only 3, while others - over 11 kg. According to the summarized data, the participants lost 10.5% body weight and 16% fat.
None of the dozens of participants in the study reported side effects, such as were not reported by scientists in detailed examinations of blood samples. The only complaint that was filed was that the capsules were extremely bitter and the tingling sensation slightly affected the taste buds when eating.
