The ketogenic diet, often called the keto diet, dates back to the 1920s and was developed by endocrinologist Dr. Henry Geilin to treat epilepsy. In 1921, Gailine discovered that the food he recommended had a positive effect on how the body processed nutrients, leading to fewer seizures in patients. This diet is very similar to the Atkins diet.
In fact, the Atkins diet is basically a ketogenic diet. The basic principle of the keto diet is to reduce carbohydrate intake and replace them with healthy fats and proteins. Here is an example of a 7-day ketogenic diet.
DAY 1
Breakfast - eggs, bacon and tomato
Lunch - Chicken salad with olive oil and feta cheese
Dinner - Salmon with asparagus cooked in butter
DAY 2
Breakfast - eggs, tomatoes, goat cheese and basil
Lunch - peanut butter, almond milk, cocoa butter and milk shake with stevia
Dinner - Meatballs with vegetables and cheddar cheese
DAY 3
Breakfast - Keto milk shake
Lunch - Shrimp salad with avocado and olive oil
Dinner - Pork with broccoli, parmesan and salad
DAY 4
Breakfast - Omelette with onions, avocado, peppers spices and salsa
Lunch - A few nuts and celery with guacamole and salsa
Dinner - Stuffed chicken with cheese and vegetables
DAY 5
Breakfast - Omelet with cheese and tomatoes
Lunch - Leftovers from the last dinner (Stuffed chicken with cheese and vegetables)
Dinner - eggs, steak, mushrooms and salad
D 6
Breakfast - Omelet with ham and vegetables
Lunch - Ham, cheese and a handful of nuts
Dinner - White fish with eggs and spinach made with coconut oil
DAY 7
Breakfast - Eggs with bacon and mushrooms
Lunch - Hamburger (meatballs only) with salsa and guacamole
Dinner - beef steak with eggs and salad
