Consumption of large amounts of carbohydrates does not increase the risk of developing colon cancer in women, according to a study published in the American Journal of Epidemiology.

Consumption of large amounts of carbohydrates does not increase the risk of developing colon cancer in women, according to a study published in the American Journal of Epidemiology.

Researchers at the Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, included 61,433 women in their study.

Participants completed a 67-point questionnaire concerning food consumption at the beginning of the study. The Swedish national registry was used to determine the incidence of colon cancer among those included in the study.

The women were followed for an average period of 15.7 years.

During this time, a total of 870 cases of colon cancer were diagnosed.

Experts have found that there is no link between a high-carbohydrate diet and the risk of colon cancer.
