Antibiotics In Meat Will Be Limited

However, some proponents of the idea insist that animal food be completely free of antibiotics.

Due to the risk to public health, the US Food and Drug Administration is taking action to limit the use of antibiotics on farm animals.

In many pig, poultry and cattle farms, antibiotics are given to animals to ensure their health and facilitate the production process.

However, the administration is now announcing that it will ask pharmaceutical companies to voluntarily stop labeling drugs that are important for treating infections in humans as acceptable for use in animal products.

If companies sign such an agreement, the use of these drugs to stimulate animal growth will be illegal and prescriptions will be required for animals to treat the disease.

The purpose of the Administration is to reduce the intake of antibiotics among animals to reduce diseases in people who develop resistance to them.

The new management will give companies three years to accept the terms.

However, some proponents of the idea insist that animal food be completely free of antibiotics . According to them, the FDA is not taking the necessary measures and the restrictions it imposes are insufficient.

Others believe that the action is still progressing.
