Characteristic

The additive is a stabilizer, which is used to provide the necessary consistency and viscosity of the product, preserves the state of liquids, preventing precipitation. Turbid particles in liquids can be small parts of the soft part of the fruit, essential oils and similar substances. E 405 significantly increases the viscosity of liquids, making it difficult to cloud.

Use

Propylene glycol alginate is used in the manufacture of flavored beverages, it is able to increase the density of the oil particles of essential oils, which are used as flavorings. Essential oils do not settle to the bottom, but rise to the surface, which can lead to the formation of oily spots. The increased density of the drink, thanks to the emulsifiers , prevents the decomposition of the liquid.

Thickeners are used to stabilize beverages such as chocolate milk because cocoa particles can precipitate. Alginates are used precisely to stabilize cocoa beverages.

Effects on the body

The permissible daily amount is not more than 1 g / kg. The use of propylene glycol alginate  is only permitted in combination with other similar alginates. These substances are used in pharmacology. E 405 helps rid the body of heavy metals such as lead and mercury. The main useful properties of sea kelp are explained by the presence of alginic acid in its composition. Given that the body of people with gastric diseases can not absorb alginates, they must be careful when using products containing the additive.

The food supplement helps to form insoluble iron and potassium salts, which leads to a decrease in the absorption of potassium alginate. The acid obtained from alginates is not absorbed by humans, but is able to decompose slightly in the conditions of the gastric microflora.

The substance is not an allergen.
