Poached pears are a classic French dessert that originates from the wine-growing territories of Burgundy and Lyon. The French prepare the dessert from unripe fruits on the tree with fruit wine. Thus, the people of the region manage to include every product they produce in an appetizing dish, emphasizing the natural sweetness of the fruit.

The dessert is suitable for winter evenings, it is light and is a great finish to any dinner, so you do not have to worry about overeating and weight after eating.

Required products :

  • 4-6 pears, peeled, cut in half and cleaned of seeds
  • the juice of 1 lemon
  • 1 1/2 tea glasses of wine (the best choice are merlot, zinfandel, shira)
  • 3/4 tea cup of crystal sugar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • peel of 1 lemon, finely grated
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • vanilla ice cream, mascarpone or cream fries

Method of preparation :

Put the pears in a bowl. Cover them with water, put in it the lemon juice (from the whole lemon) and 2 tablespoons of sugar. Leave to soak.

To spread, mix the wine and sugar, add 2 tablespoons of lemon juice, citrus peel, vanilla and cinnamon. Put on the stove and wait for the liquid to boil.

Reduce the heat to simmer the wine and add the pears.

Let simmer for 10-12 minutes, then turn the pears over and cook for another 10 minutes until soft.

A slotted spoon take the pears out of the sauce and leave them on a towel or grate.

Return the sauce to the hob and continue to cook until the liquid is reduced by half.

Serve the dessert - put a pear in a small bowl. Pour the sauce on top and put a spoonful of cream, ice cream or whipped cream right next to the pear. Garnish with fresh mint leaves or dark chocolate flakes.
