What is silicone made of?

Manganese, silicon, chromium, nickel, boron, tungsten, selenium, cobalt, copper and other components can be used in the silicon production process. They may be released under the influence of high temperature or when the silicone is damaged. It is not difficult to guess that many of these substances could be dangerous to health. Therefore, there are special requirements for the preparation of silicone for medical and nutritional purposes. The production of such is a very slow and high-tech process, it should not be toxic and not cause allergies. In addition, the silicone used in cooking needs to be refractory and not react with organic acids. All these properties distinguish it from construction.

 

How to recognize quality silicone molds?

  • Do not buy products without packaging and without a label!
  • Pay attention to the marking! Look for the CE and FDA markings. The first is a sign that the product meets the basic requirements of the European Union, and the second - that it complies with the requirements of the US Food and Drug Administration. This way you can be sure that you will not harm yourself or the environment.
