Required products :

  • 2 tea cups self-swelling flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly crushed black pepper
  • 4 strips of bacon, finely chopped
  • 6 leaves of fresh sage, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Method of preparation :

 

  • Preheat the oven to 180 degrees and cover the bottom of the pan with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking soda, salt and pepper.
  • Roast the bacon in a pan over medium heat until lightly browned.
  • Add the sage leaves, stir and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  • Add the melted butter, baked bacon and buttermilk to the bowl with the dry ingredients.
  • Stir with a wooden spoon enough to mix and remove on a lightly floured surface.
  • Knead the dough briefly and form a loaf with a diameter of about 20 centimeters. Transfer to the prepared pan.
  • Using a sharp knife, make an X-shaped incision in the upper part, which should be nearly 1.5 cm deep.
  • Use a fine sieve to sprinkle the bread with a little flour.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes.
  • Allow to cool briefly before breaking and serving.
