At the end of winter, seasonal fatigue occurs. It is provoked by lack of light and low physical activity due to gloomy weather and cold. Also from malnutrition, in which carbohydrates and fats predominate, and vitamins and trace elements supplied by fresh fruits and vegetables are extremely limited.
This type of exhaustion, known as spring fatigue, can occur along with burning eyes, blurred vision, distraction, sweating of the hands, a feeling of general discomfort. In such cases, it is not reasonable to drive. Statistics show that fatigue is the cause of about 30% of severe accidents. In practice, the feeling of exhaustion is so widespread that the risks of it are ignored. At the end of winter, we tend to call spring fatigue any manifestation of exhaustion. But in fact, fatigue is a symptom of serious illness.
For several years now, scientists have been actively studying this condition, which in medical circles is called "chronic fatigue syndrome". This concept first appeared in 1983, but only in recent years has it become clear that, in fact, spring fatigue is least common in spring. Its seasons of manifestation are autumn and late winter, which explains the symptoms.
According to experts from the UK and the US, who have published data from several years of their research in journals such as Nature and the British Medical Journal, exhaustion is most often due to a past or onset infection, usually the flu.
The second most probable reason for the development of such complaints is a series of stressful situations that have exhausted the nervous system and led to the manifestation of depressive symptoms.
Spring fatigue can also be due to poor nutrition and lack of ascorbic acid, which is responsible for a healthy immune system. This acid is high in citrus fruits and especially in grapefruit and lemons. Scientists note that in winter we usually eat more meat and canned foods and rarely eat products rich in vitamins and minerals, such as fresh fruits and vegetables. No less harmful is a sedentary lifestyle and lack of physical activity. The combination of these factors drastically weakens the system and the body's defenses.
The condition in which a person falls for a week or two, looks like a pre-disease. This is largely due to the decreased tone of the vessels and the disturbed harmonious work of the internal organs due to the unclear commands given by the brain. External signs are often overweight, hypersensitivity to changes in weather, gastric pain, migraine, back and joint pain. These symptoms may be a sufficient reason to visit a doctor.
In most cases, the complaints subside after the use of vitamins, tonics or nutritional supplements prescribed by the personal doctor. Among the most successful vitamins to combat fatigue are group B and especially B6, which improves brain function and B12 for the blood. Vitamin C strengthens the immune system, and beta-carotene, vitamin E and polyphenols, zinc and selenium play the role of antioxidants that neutralize many harmful substances - toxins, tobacco smoke, dirty air. Magnesium also helps fight fatigue, which increases resistance to stressful situations.
In more severe cases, when it comes to the appearance of permanent irritation, depression or insomnia, which affects the ability to work, it is necessary to talk to a specialist. In some cases, complex treatment may be needed, including mild antidepressants and medications to improve metabolism and brain hydration.
It is possible that the treatment will be entirely based on homeopathic preparations to improve the protection of the immune system based on ginseng or ginkgo biloba, soothing nerves herbal teas, acupuncture, hypnosis and hydrotherapy.
Some of these measures can also be taken at home. More outdoor walks are recommended, at least one contrast shower a day and a bath with juniper, sea salt and a decoction of valerian. Self-massage, exercise and a proper diet rich in vitamins also work.
When applying massage techniques, experts pay special attention to the impact on two areas to improve the body's energy balance - around the kidneys and in the knee area. The latter is often called the "point of 100 diseases" because its treatment is associated with affecting a large part of the internal organs.
Exercise also works, and it doesn't have to be strength training or long workouts at home, leading to sweating and even more fatigue.
Experts recommend that in the spring season the emphasis be on stretching, as well as meditative practices.
In the spirit of the Eastern notion that any fatigue results from the lack of fresh air in the body, those suffering from spring fatigue can conduct daily "ventilation" of their lungs.
The exercise itself is a deep inhale, hold the air and exhale, all the while the performer tries to concentrate on his sensations and, if necessary, to focus on the most problematic part of the body.
Food taken in early spring is the other important element in overcoming exhaustion. That is why it is more than necessary to have as many vegetables, fruits, nuts, dairy products and fish as possible in the daily menu. Energy drinks are an addition to the diet, which, however, should not be abused. Up to two glasses of carbonated drink containing taurine, caffeine, L-carnitine and glucose to stimulate muscle function and metabolism provide a rapid flow of energy, which helps to cope with sudden bouts of fatigue. The rest of the time you can take tea of thyme or rose hips.
Aromatherapy and sun therapy are also not to be underestimated. Particularly successful flavors (concentrated in bath emulsions, oils from extracts or sticks), having a beneficial tonic effect on the body, are rosemary, dried strawberries or fruits, nettle, birch leaves, echinacea.
Exposure to the April sun is another method of dealing with the problem. Moreover, according to experts, sunlight activates the production of the so-called. "happiness hormone" - serotonin, stabilizes the nervous system, harmonizes metabolism and improves heart function.
Slowing down the pace of exercise is one way to deal with the anxiety of constant drowsiness, and a smile can be part of a set of anti-stress exercises.
It is recommended to include additional intake of vitamins during the spring season.
