Keep children away from energy drinks ! This is the message of scientific sessions of the American Heart Association. 
 
Researchers explain that toxicology centers in the United States are receiving more and more calls about children under the age of 6 who have consumed energy drinks containing high amounts of caffeine. Experts warn that energy drinks can be dangerous. 
 
Dr. William Eglton of New York adds that when we think of children , attention seems to be more focused on coffee consumption , and energy drinks and their harm are often overlooked. 
 
Caffeine can cause a rise in blood pressure levels , speed up the heart rate and lead to other heart and neurological problems such as seizures. 
 
Data from the national database of toxicology centers in the United States show that for the period between October 2010 and September 2013, 5,156 cases of people exposed to the effects of  energy drinks were reported . 40% of them are children who inadvertently had access to these drinks. 
 
 
 
Scientists are pushing for better labeling to indicate the risks that energy drinks pose.  
 
On the other hand, parents should take care to keep them out of the reach of children to avoid the possibility of children reaching out to them.
