Opisthorchiasis is a disease that has a parasitic nature, belongs to the group of trematodes, caused by flatworms.

When eating fish from the Carp family, the infection can enter the liver, bile and pancreas.

Useful products for opisthorchiasis

During the treatment of the disease it is necessary to follow a medical diet №5. It helps to normalize liver function and bile ducts, improves the secretion of bile. In addition, the diet is used for hepatitis, cirrhosis of the liver and cholecystitis.

The caloric content of food consumed during the day should be between 2200 and 2500 kcal. The patient should receive 350 grams of carbohydrates and 90 grams of fat and protein.

To be consumed:
  • drinks: homemade compotes, sour, juices (non-sour, and tomato should not be salted), rosehip decoction, weak tea, weak coffee with fresh milk;
  • all low-fat dairy and yoghurt products.
  • vegetarian and milk soups;
  • lean fish and meat;
  • porridge;
  • sweet fruits and berries;
  • biscuits and other bakery products from yeast-free dough, unleavened bread (rye, wheat);
  • 1 egg per day - can be boiled or in the form of an omelet;
  • small amounts of sugar, honey and fruit jam;
  • vegetable oil and butter - up to 50 grams per day;
  • vegetables (including leafy vegetables) and dried fruits.


All dishes must be steamed, boiled or stewed. Serve at room temperature and food intake 5-6 times a day.

Dangerous and harmful products in opisthorchiasis

It is necessary to exclude from the menu all foods that stimulate the secretion of gastric juice and the secretion of the pancreas.

Do not eat fried and smoked products. Cholesterol and purine products should be kept to a minimum.

The listed groups include:
  • freshly baked bread and bakery products;
  • mushrooms;
  • bacon, caviar;
  • fatty meats and fish and soups thereof;
  • hot spices and leafy vegetables such as horseradish, black pepper, mustard, turnips, green onions, sorrel, spinach, radishes;
  • culinary and trans fats;
  • canned food, sausages, marinades, vinegar, sauces, toppings and dressings;
  • too hot or cold foods and drinks;
  • alcoholic and sweet carbonated beverages, cocoa, strong coffee;
  • sour fruits and berries, as well as juices and smoothies prepared from them;
  • home-made confectionery, confectionery creams, ice cream and other cold desserts and cocktails;

The diet of opisthorchiasis patients should last at least 50 days.
