On Hot Days - More Water And Hot Drinks

Hot drinks balance the body temperature and the environment and reduce the loss of body fluids ...

The role of water in the existence of life is indisputable. In every organism it plays the role of a solvent, a chemical reagent, a medium for carrying out chemical reactions.

Water provides the transport of energy sources, enzymes, hormones, biologically active substances, but also the transport of toxic end products of metabolism. The role as a thermoregulator is not small, as well as a factor for maintaining certain volumes and pressures such as blood, intraocular, intracerebral and others.

In summer, through sweating, we lose significantly more fluid through the skin.

In order to maintain a constant volume of body fluids, it is necessary to have a balance between the intake and loss of water from the body. The loss of fluids from the body requires appropriate compensation of the water-salt balance.

A minimum of 1.5 liters of fluid per day is needed to maintain optimal cell turgor. During the hot summer days, especially if people are exposed to higher temperatures, water intake can increase to 2.5 liters.
The more people sweat, the more water their body needs to maintain its homeostasis.
It is important to know that fluid intake depends on the individual characteristics of the body and people suffering from certain diseases should not overdo it.

Excessive fluid intake can cause high blood pressure. The volume of blood circulation increases and the heart works under difficult conditions.

When sweating, especially if it is more abundant, in addition to water, sodium is lost. This can lead to a disturbance in the body's water-salt balance.

According to experts in nutrition and metabolism, the consumption of salted tomato juice helps maintain water-salt balance, especially in overweight people who sweat profusely.

Another drink often recommended for summer days is tea, which should not be hot, but in no case cold.

On warm days it is good to drink hot drinks with a temperature of about 40 o C. They balance the body temperature and the environment and contribute to lower fluid loss from the body.
