Potassium-rich Foods Normalize Blood Pressure

According to experts, the intake of more potassium in childhood significantly affects cardiovascular health in the future.

Consumption of potassium-rich foods is much more effective than salt-free diet , say researchers at Boston University.

 

In their study, published in the journal JAMA Pediatrics , they tracked the eating habits and blood pressure of 2,185 children aged about 10 years.


 

According to experts, the intake of more potassium during childhood significantly affects cardiovascular health in the future, reducing the risk of hypertension in adulthood.

 

They point out that people on a global scale consume too much salt, with over 75% of it coming from industrially processed foods.


US experts have found that for adults with high blood pressure, each unit of the increase in the ratio of sodium to potassium in the body is associated with a 24% chance of cardiovascular disorders.

 

Therefore, its intake is mandatory, as the recommended daily dose of potassium is about 4,700 mg.

 

It is better to take potassium with food, not with supplements.

 

This trace element is found in the largest quantities in citrus fruits, milk, broccoli, legumes, green vegetables and bananas.
 

Experts advise parents to include these foods in their children's menu from an early age to ensure a healthy and fulfilling life in the future.

 

Increased systolic and diastolic blood pressure increases the risk of developing cardiovascular and kidney disease, hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis or arteriosclerosis), eye damage and stroke (brain damage).

 

For this reason, controlling high blood pressure is extremely important so that efforts can be focused on normalizing it and preventing possible complications.
