How does the type of temperament affect success in sports, how to determine your type, and learn how best to motivate yourself for the long-awaited result?

Temperament: color coding

Even Hippocrates, who lived 2500 years ago, divided people into four types of temperament: sanguine, choleric, melancholic and phlegmatic. But few people want to be "phlegm", and psychologists introduced color coding for greater abstraction.

Of course, the theory of temperaments is not universal, and it is not possible to draw general conclusions about a person, as there are often exceptions. But we will assume that this theory is quite sufficient to describe motivation in sports and fitness.

Green - longevity and health

"3 sets of 7 reps each, weight 43%, 57% and 69% of the maximum in each set, respectively" - their program, "42% of calories from protein, 37% from carbohydrates, 21% - from fats" - their diet . Greens need as clear recommendations as possible.

Greens are the easiest to achieve success in training, they progress quite quickly in the growth of muscles, because the most important thing in sports is the stability of the training program and schedule. And the Greens have no problems with that.

Greens do sports for their future health. It is important to them how they will look in 15 years, and how they will feel at the same time. The main motivation for them is not today's result, but what will be tomorrow and what will be always.

It is believed that approximately 20% have pronounced Green qualities. Such people are engaged in work in a narrow area, about which they know everyone. They are prudent, they always plan everything in advance, and they care first of all about their opinion.

Blues are pioneers and discoverers

They tried yoga, pilates, belt exercises, plyometrics and split training. Sons do not play sports to pump up their chest and biceps before summer, they do it to be ready for surfing and snowboarding.

The motivation for the Blues is interest. They are really interested in something new, it is important for them to tell their friends that they were the first to try an interesting fitness technique. It is not today's result that is important to them, but what will have value tomorrow.

But in order to get in shape, consistency is important both in the program and in the diet and training schedule, but consistency with the Blues is more difficult: they cannot plan a week ahead, because they are always on the move, and their plans change .

Approximately 15% of people can be attributed to this type. Most often, these are representatives of creative professions; any work with tables causes longing, because it is important for them to do something new every day. In addition, Blues do not like pressure and authoritarianism.

Reds are purposeful winners

They constantly challenge themselves and others, and sport for them is a competition. Having chosen a goal, the Reds methodically strive for it, so that at the end they can praise themselves for having been able to conquer this goal. Approximately 10-15% of the population have such qualities.

It is important for the Reds to be first, and any means will do for this. If you need to count calories, they will count, if you need to reorganize your life according to the training schedule, they will reorganize. It will be necessary to live sports - they will. The main thing is the goal.

Not every trainer will be able to cope with them, because they will question any authority. They need not just a coach, but a Teacher whom they trust immensely and whose experience they believe in. Otherwise, they will teach the coach how to train correctly.

The motivation for the Reds is to always achieve the goal and be number one. Moreover, as soon as they get this goal, they set the next one and go to it. Therefore, the goal is important today, because tomorrow or next year it will not be relevant.

Yellow - beach lovers

They don't want to compete and be the best, they're not going to snowboard or wave. Yellows don't want to teach others or make someone's life better. They just want to make abs and show it on the beach to make others jealous.

Motivation for the Yellows is the evaluation of others. It is important for them that others positively evaluate what they do and the results they have achieved. And the most difficult thing is to tear yourself away from the sofa and go to the gym, where you will also have to exert yourself.

Without a good coach, it is difficult for the Yellows, they need someone whose opinion they fully trust and whose authority they do not doubt. If the coach said three sets, then three sets. But if they write otherwise on the Internet, then they are lying on the Internet.

More than 50% of people belong to the predominant Yellow type. Stability and constancy are more important to them. The result is needed in the short term and with minimal effort. And it is desirable that someone else supervises the execution.

Depending on the type of temperament, different people are influenced by different types of motivation: for someone, a quick result at any cost is important, and for someone, work for the future; someone cares only about his opinion, and for someone the evaluation of others is important.
