Olive oil instead of other fats

According to a study, an ingredient in olive oil - oleocanthal - helps prevent inflammation in the body. Experts believe that it has an action similar to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

The types of olive oil with the strongest taste have the highest value of oleocanthal.

The results of the study show that about three teaspoons of olive oil provide the same relief as 200 mg of ibuprofen.

Care should be taken with the consumption of oil due to its caloric content. To add olive oil to your diet without straining extra calories, limit your consumption of other high-calorie foods, such as butter and margarine.

Be careful with high cooking temperatures

Foods cooked at high temperatures, such as grilled or roasted meat, produce compounds that can cause inflammation in the body. These are end products of glycation (AGEs). They are characteristic of diseases such as arthritis, heart disease and diabetes. Although the end products of glycation are found naturally in the body, the consumption of foods high in ingredients can increase these levels.

The values of the final glycation products can be reduced by limiting the consumption of fried, smoked and grilled and microwaved meats.

It is advisable to avoid processed foods as well, as most of them are also prepared at high temperatures.

Avoid soft drinks

Sugar-rich soft drinks are not recommended for men with osteoarthritis of the knee, according to a study by Harvard Medical School. Their consumption is associated with disease progression. The reasons are not yet fully understood.

Ingredients in sugary sodas, including phosphoric acid, caffeine, as well as colorants and sweeteners, are thought to affect calcium absorption, which plays a role in building and strengthening bones, the researchers said.

Experts recommend moderate consumption of soft drinks.
