Characteristic

Food additive E 128 is a chemical substance that refers to colorants of synthetic origin. It is a powder or granules, soluble in water, resistant to light, high temperature (up to 205 ° C), acidic and alkaline media. The name red 2G means sodium salt, but it also exists in the form of aluminum lacquer. It is classified as a banned substance.

Use

E 128 is banned for use in the food industry. The colorant is used in the production of liquid detergents: shampoos, gels, foams and others. In the textile industry it is used for dyeing woolen fabrics.

Effects on the human body

As a result of research, it has been announced that the dye contains aniline. This is a toxic aromatic substance that adversely affects the nervous system (memory disorders) and can cause oxygen starvation. In case of E 128 poisoning, general malaise, cyanosis of the lips, ears, nails, vomiting, uncoordinated movements appear. In addition, after animal observations, aniline was found to be carcinogenic. All these experiments and studies lead the European Commission to reconsider the authorization to use the additive. The colorant is excluded from the list of "Additives for food production" to the Sanitary and Epidemiological Rules and Regulations. However, E 128 is used in some EU countries to color different sausages, also in different detergents.
