The dietary supplement 1,4 heptonolactone belongs to the group of antioxidants and in the food industry acts as an acidity regulator. In nature, this substance does not occur naturally. The additive E 370 is synthesized from hydroxy carboxylic acid under laboratory conditions chemically.
Use
The food supplement 1,4 heptonolactone can be used in the process of production of vanilla, artificial coconut shavings, dry soups for quick preparation, ready mixes for making desserts (jellies, mousses, creams and pastes). In addition, the supplement is able to remove from food unwanted impurities of copper, nickel and iron. In addition to the food industry, the antioxidant E 370 is used as a stabilizer for fuel and some flammable lubricants.
Impact on humans
At present, there is no question of potential harm or benefit to the human body from the additive E 370 , because it is prohibited for use in some countries because it has not passed the necessary tests. Due to the risk of adverse effects on the human body, the acidity regulator 1,4 heptonolactone is banned for use in the food industry in New Zealand, Australia and a number of European countries.
