Fast food appeared thanks to our rhythm of life. It was simply a pity to waste time on a slow and thoughtful meal with three or four changes of dishes. At best, long feasts are remembered during holidays and family celebrations. And even those are trying to turn into new-fashioned buffets.
Food culture is gradually being lost. Whether it is good or bad from a moral and ethical point of view is debatable. But probably no one will argue with the fact that it is harmful to health. And it is no accident that, in contrast to McDonald's restaurants, numerous cafes with homemade food and a national menu began to appear. And they win more and more fans. We found out how dangerous fast food is for health.
A little history of fast foodIt is generally accepted that we owe McDonald's the appearance of junk food. However, this is not the case. Even the ancient Romans sold cakes with meat, fried in olive oil, in numerous bazaars. Local residents and guests of the state willingly bought them up. The first automatic fast food appeared at the beginning of the 20th century in New York. Special machines dispensed coffee, milk, vegetable and meat dishes, and even desserts. But soon they were replaced by the first fast food restaurants from the Root Beer company, then another restaurateur (White Castle) picked up this idea. Surprisingly, such establishments became successful. Waiters on rollers who served car drivers were especially popular.
In the fifties of the 20th century, the American McDonald's brothers picked up the idea of fast food and improved it a little. They invented their own technology for cooking and delivering meals. This was done with the aim of attracting visitors to unusual establishments, reducing the cost of ready-made food products and, of course, making a profit. They managed to achieve all this.
"Restaurants for the poor" have turned into a whole network of public catering. At first, they invaded the country, and in the 60s, they went beyond its borders. And today there are more than 40,000 restaurants with the yellow letter M in 120 countries of the world. They appeared in our country in the nineties and made a real sensation. People were ready to stand in lines to eat an overseas hamburger. Even today, McDonald's is loved by many of our fellow citizens.
Why is fast food considered harmful? The cafe offers its visitors dishes fried in oil. All supporters of healthy eating know: fried food is a source of high cholesterol, which means it is a provocateur of cardiovascular diseases. In addition, according to technology, frying oil, ideally, should not be used several times for cooking. But unscrupulous restaurateurs, at best, change it after 2-3 days. And maybe in a week. You can imagine how many carcinogens accumulate in such oil! And they all end up in our stomach.
In addition, food from McDonald's does not spoil for years. This was proved by one resident of Canada. She just put the cheeseburger on the kitchen table. A year has passed. The bun has become stale. The cutlet has slightly decreased in size. The cheese is dry. But no mold, no fungus, no larvae appeared on the products. Even flies refused to sit on this food. The cheeseburger looked perfectly edible. Quality food, you say. No. This is not the case at all. The "survival" of the dish is caused by the huge amount of salt and preservatives contained in it. And no matter how much McDonald's representatives say that they use only fresh meat without additives and fillers to prepare their patties, they cannot explain the secret of preserving the cheeseburger.
Fast food causes excess weight and obesity. This fact has long been proven by nutritionists. The fashion for fast food has led to the fact that the British, the French and the Japanese are rapidly gaining weight. If you compare today's weight of a resident of any of these countries with the weight ten years ago, you can see a significant difference. Fast food is very high in calories. One meal in such a restaurant contains the entire daily calorie requirement. But you can eat a full meal of three or four dishes and remain hungry. Therefore, it is impossible to control the amount of fast food eaten.
In addition, ice cola is an integral part of fast food. We drink it with French fries or a hamburger. Gastric juice, mixing with carbon dioxide, ceases to perform its function of digesting food, usually fatty. Under the influence of a cold drink, this fat hardens on the walls of our stomach and leads to extra centimeters on the waist and hips.
Fast food at homeShawarma, hot dog, donuts, pancakes with fillings, pizza, chips, croutons - these are all the things we snack on on the go, and it's called fast food. Oddly enough, for some reason, harmful foods have always been considered the tastiest. But if you really want to, why not try to cook all this at home? It can be tastier and healthier than in a fast food cafe. But it's cheaper, that's for sure.
Do you like chips? No problem! It is enough to cut the potato into slices, add a little oil to it, spread it in a thin layer on a baking sheet and send it to the oven. After half an hour, take out the chips, sprinkle with spices and salt to taste. And you can enjoy natural products with a minimum amount of oil. Besides, baked potatoes are much healthier than fried ones.
And what about your favorite hamburger? Not a problem either. Make minced beef, form patties, put them in the freezer for a few minutes. Then fry the frozen semi-finished products in a pan. Cut the bun in half, put a little mustard or any sauce on one half, put chopped onions and ready meat. Cover this structure with the other half of the bun. It's delicious, and the main thing is fresh meat and no preservatives.
As you can see, there is no reason to go to a fast food restaurant to eat your favorite dish. It can be prepared at home. Only it will be much more useful. Today, it is not for nothing that society begins to think about the quality of food consumed. Fast food is being replaced by slow food - restaurants of leisurely food. It is possible that over time they will push McDonald's out of our market.
