Orzo is a pasta in the form of rice. Although similar to cereals, orzo is a simple pasta that is traditionally prepared in the same way as all other pasta. But as you know, each paste has a specific shape that makes it more suitable for different uses. Here we will introduce you to the methods by which you can prepare orzo.

The paste is used both for the preparation of hot dishes and is added to salads and soups. Orzo is usually in a traditional pale yellow color, but is sometimes enriched with different colors, based on the principle of colored pasta.

It is important to note that although it looks like rice, it is not, we remind you again, because if you follow a gluten-free diet or have intolerance, you should not be deceived, because orzo is made from wheat.

Cooking methods

Like pasta

This is the easiest and most traditional method. Add salt to water and when it boils, add the pasta. Beat for 10 minutes, then drain, pour olive oil or butter and serve.

On the principle of boiled rice

Pour the pasta into cold water. Bring the liquid to a boil, then reduce the temperature, cover with a lid and cook on low heat until the water is absorbed. In this way you can prepare other pasta.

Risotto method

When cooking, add a little warm water / broth to the orzo, and add each portion of liquid only when the previous one has been absorbed by the paste. This way you will finally get a creamy texture. Some call this method "risotto".

Like pilaf

This method is a combination of boiled rice and risotto. Fry the orzo in a little olive oil together with a little chopped onion, then add hot water and cover the dish with a lid. Transfer to the oven at 170 degrees and bake for 20 minutes until the broth is absorbed.

Baking method

Orzo is a great paste that you can add to casserole dishes and various casserole dishes. Following the instructions on the cooking package, the pasta will boil when baked afterwards. You don't really want that. Therefore, you should follow the special cooking and baking time mentioned in each recipe, which will ensure you a perfectly prepared pasta. Otherwise you risk overcooking the pasta. You can try it yourself by reducing the cooking time by half and continue baking.

Orzo in salads

Orzo paste is a great ingredient to enrich your salads and make them more nutritious. Just drain the well-cooked product, pour olive oil and stir. Cool and then add to your favorite salad. You can add it wherever rice, bulgur or pasta are used.
