Regular consumption of chocolate can reduce the risk of stroke in men, experts say.

For the purpose of the study, 37,000 men aged between 49-75 years took part. The participants were divided into two groups, the first was set moderate consumption of chocolate for 10 years, and the second - limited intake.


The results show that 1995 participants in the second group suffered a stroke over a period of ten years.

In the first group taking chocolate, the risk of stroke was reduced by 17%.

Other factors such as eating habits, smoking , alcohol consumption, overweight, high blood pressure and others were taken during the study .

The results of the study do not mean that chocolate can be used as a preventative against stroke, experts explain. It is important to pay attention to your overall health and standard of living .

 

 


The data from the study are published in the journal Neurology .


Ischemic stroke is one of the most common causes of death in Bulgaria. According to statistics, one in six people in the country dies from an ischemic stroke .

Ischemic strokes occur as a result of restriction or interruption of blood flow, respectively the flow of oxygen and glucose to the brain.
