People who eat more whole grains live longer and have healthier hearts. Moreover, such a regime reduces the risk of developing various types of cancer.
That's according to researchers at Harvard University, who conducted an experiment with more than 74,000 men and nearly 44,000 women over a period of 15 years.
All participants in the study were healthy at the beginning of 1984. An inspection in 2010 revealed that more than 26,000 of them had died. Oats have the most soluble fiber compared to other foods . Soluble fiber releases a jelly-like substance, which slows digestion and creates a feeling of satiety.
This improves blood sugar levels and stabilizes it. With their help, fats in the body and the levels of bad cholesterol in the blood are reduced .
Studies show that people with high blood cholesterol who consume only 3 g of soluble fiber a day can reduce total cholesterol by 8 to 23%.
Whole grain products also strengthen the immune system because of their content of useful fibers, vitamins, proteins, minerals and beta glucan (natural polysaccharides).
