Rosemary Extract In Organic Foods - Already Allowed

Rosemary extract is included in the list of food additives and excipients of the European Union.

Rosemary extract can be used as an antioxidant in organic foods in the Member States of the European Union, as set out in Annex VIII to Regulation 344/2011 of the lists of additives and excipients that may be used in organic products.

Rosemary is an attractive evergreen shrub with pine needle-like leaves. In order to be used in organic products as an antioxidant, rosemary must be grown according to biological standards. This also applies to ethanol, which is used as an extractant to extract the extract.

Extraction is the process of extracting one or more components from a mixture that is in a solid or liquid state, the mixture being treated with a solvent (extractant).

Thanks to its antioxidant properties, rosemary extract prevents rancidity and spoilage of products such as meat, pasta, sauces, various foods containing fat and others.
