It is advisable to consume slightly alkaline mineral waters, not only because they contain useful minerals in easily digestible electrolyte form, but also because they are guaranteed to be clean.
Why is the alkaline-acid balance in the body important for health and what exactly is it?
The alkaline-acid balance in the body is determined to some extent by the intake of fluids and foods. There are those that shift the pH of body fluids in an alkaline direction, ie. it becomes 7 and above this value. Such are fruits and vegetables, milk and dairy products. Meat and meat products have exactly the opposite effect - they shift the alkaline-acid balance in the acidic direction. The foods themselves have such an acidic potential and if we overdo it, then the pH in the body will shift.
A balanced healthy diet leads to a very good and normal electrolyte balance. There must be a serious distortion in the diet in order to shift the pH in the body in an acidic direction and have a detrimental effect.
For example, if we consume large amounts of meat and meat products, then the alkaline-acid balance may shift in an acidic direction. This process can have a detrimental effect, combined with other harmful effects of meat and meat products, which contain significant amounts of saturated fatty acids, raising cholesterol and increasing the risk of atherosclerosis.
Often meat products are preserved with nitrates and nitrites, which are used to inhibit the growth of bacteria that release the dangerous botulinum toxin. Nitrates also give the sausages a pleasant black color. In meat products, unlike vegetables, nitrates and nitrites can interact with amines contained in meat proteins and form harmful substances, even carcinogens.
And what does the alkaline-acid imbalance lead to?
It can lead to damage to the gastrointestinal system, has an adverse effect on the functions of the nervous and cardiovascular systems.
But it is not these acidic radicals that are the main harmful effect, they rather contribute, contribute along with all the other harmful factors that come from these acid-forming foods.
Does it matter what kind of water we drink in terms of alkaline-acid balance?
It is good to drink alkaline water, they are perfect for everyday use. Many waters in Bulgaria are such, low-mineralized ones are especially suitable. For example, Bankya, Gorna Banya, Devin. All the most widely used mineral waters can be easily drunk instead of ordinary water.
How is mineral water superior to tap water?
I recommend consuming slightly alkaline mineral waters, not only because they contain useful minerals in easily digestible electrolyte form, but also because they are guaranteed to be pure. They spring from great depths and are not microbially contaminated. While this water we consume from the taps is not always in good microbiological condition. For example, if the pipes through which the water flows are old, they can cause contamination. In rare cases there are problems with our drinking water. Usually, it meets all safety requirements, in addition - Bulgarian water is delicious. There are countries where water cannot be drunk because it is hard. Ours is soft. The mountain villages and towns in our country have wonderful water and it is simply unnecessary to drink mineral water.
How much water does our body need per day?
It is recommended to consume 1.5 - 2 liters per day of fluids, and they can be obtained not only by drinking water, but also by eating soups and other liquid foods.
Does it matter before or after a main meal we will drink more fluids and if so - for what?
In general, there is no problem to consume water before, during and after meals, it does not affect the absorption of nutrients. The only problem is how much water we can change the amount of food we eat. When we have weight problems, if we drink water before meals, we fill to some extent the volume of the stomach and this is a prerequisite for reducing food consumption.
Therefore, for people who have weight problems, soup is recommended. Unlike water, soup also contains nutrients and has a better saturating effect. The water passes quickly through the gastrointestinal tract and the feeling of satiety is short-lived. Conversely, if we need to gain weight, it is better to separate water intake from food, so as not to feel "full". This way we will eat more food.
If we want to lose weight, it is recommended to eat more fluids and liquid foods, as this reduces the energy value of the diet.
