The Association "Active Consumers" came out with a request for food producers in our country to write the content of saturated fats, salt and sugar on the labels of their products on the "traffic light principle".
It is envisaged that on the labels, the ingredients will be marked in different colors according to their daily needs. If the respective ingredient is in an amount less than the daily needs of the human body from it, it will be marked in green on the package. The average content will be marked in yellow, the high - in red.
The Consumers' Association explains that this method of labeling has already been successfully introduced in the UK. The results of the research show that people find it much easier to find out about the content of various substances in food and more successfully compare the food consumed with the daily needs of their body.
According to the Ministry of Health, it presented alarming data, according to which 60% of adult Bulgarians are overweight and 20% of them are obese.
About 20% of school-age children (between 7 and 18 years old) are overweight, and a quarter of them are obese.
Experts are worried that despite the entry into force of the Ordinance on healthy eating for students, which prohibits the sale of high-fat and high-sugar products in school canteens and buffets, the number of children with problem weight is constantly growing.
